>>Dargan is a 15 year old diagnosed with ADHD, behavior disorders, and possible bi-polar disorder. Dargan, a former “Maximum Watchful Oversight” child, was abandoned by his Mom who said she could not deal with him. Through numerous placements, the CASA helped him articulate his goals to change his behaviors and to realize what he most wanted - “a family that loves me.” The CASA helped him find an adoptive home with an equine therapy program where he is learning to accept “family dynamics.” The CASA can’t wait to celebrate his high school graduation and life beyond!
>>After years of witnessing domestic violence and Mom’s meth addiction, the Smith children (Kyle, 10 months, Layla, 3 years, and Joy,5 years) had no viable options for placement together. Grandmother would take only two of the children and their father preferred the two younger children over the oldest. The children had been in state care for nine month’s when Mom read the CASA report stating that the 3 year old had said that “Mommy is gone.”
The CASA helped Mom understand that she is the only chance for her three kids to stay together. Today Mom is voluntarily in a residential rehab, has been “sober” for 90 days and is working hard to get her children back.
>>Two Year old Joey’s Mom was a runaway teen who abandoned him. Joey’s Dad, also a minor, had graduated from high school and had earned a full scholarship to college. Welfare workers gave Joey’s Dad two options: give up your baby and pursue college, or give up your college dreams and take care of your baby. The CASA found another option for child care for the father while in college. Today young Joey is living with his aunt and Dad is very involved in his care.
>>Jordan, Alisha and Heywood are 8 years, 10 years and 12 years. The three adore their Mom. Dad is not in their lives. Mom has many issues, including drugs, mental illness and a history of prostitution. All three children have ADHD and Explosive Behavior Disorder although they are very bright and do well in school. The three have moved through multiple placements with relatives and foster homes and the CASA has been the only constant factor in their lives for the last 4 years. The CASA has secured educational help for the children and has helped to facilitate a guardianship with a foster family who will provide a safe and permanent home.
